Mailbox Damaged by a Snowplow?

11/26/2013
The Village of Grayslake has a mailbox replacement policy covering damage from either what it calls a “direct hit” from a snowplow or from wet snow thrown by a plow. To qualify for repair or replacement, your damaged mailbox must have been built and placed according to village code specifications as detailed at the Village of Grayslake site (search for “mailbox”). Among other requirements, the front of the mailbox must be set back at least 12 inches from the curb or road shoulder.
To report a damaged mailbox, call the village’s Request for Service System at 847-223-8515 or submit a request via the village website. The site says to call the same number for more information on whether your mailbox is properly located.
